Imperial Music Egg with portrait
Faberge Imperial Eggs
This extraordinary openable egg is the reminiscent of the exquisite Faberge egg, presented to Nicholas as a gift to Alexandra with on the first Easter following the coronation. The Egg is enameled in a lustrous color over a starburst guilloché ground. Overlaying that is a trellis work of laurel leaves punctuated with the Romanov Double Eagle insignia at every trellis intersection, each insignia set with a crystal.
The Faberge eggs began in 1884 with an Easter egg made by the brilliant Russian jeweller Faberge for the Russian tsar Alexander III that became a gift for his wife. Then Nicholas II, Alexander son and last Russian Emperor continued the tradition. You can get more information about Hermitage and Russian tsar's family in our Books and Films
