The original Faberge eggs were created as a gift from Russian Tsar Alexander III for his wife, Maria. Each year, Faberge created a unique egg as an Easter gift for the Tsarina. The tradition continued after Alexander III’s death and the Easter egg shape and hidden surprise were inspired by famous historical works of art.
