Molnija Watch Factory is based in Chelyabinsk, Russia. "Molnija" [moh-l-nee-yah] is the Russian word for "lightning".

The state coat of arms of the Soviet Union (Russian: Государственный герб СССР) was adopted in 1924 and was used until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Technically speaking, it is a national emblem rather than a coat of arms, since it does not respect heraldical rules. In Russian it is called герб, the word used to translate "coat of arms".
The coat of arms shows the traditional Soviet emblems of the hammer and sickle and the Red Star over a globe, and two wreaths of wheat covered by the USSR State motto ("Workers of the World, Unite!") in the official languages of the Soviet Republics, in the reverse order they were mentioned in the Constitution of the USSR. The version used in 1991 had therefore the state motto in 15 languages, since the removal of the Finnish version with the downgrading of the Karelo-Finnish SSR into a mere ASSR of the Russian SFSR in 1956.
Each Soviet Republic (SSR) and Autonomous Soviet Republic (ASSR) had its own coat of arms, largely inspired by the coat of arms of the Union.

If you return back to the history of Russia you'll see that Russian Tzars always invited masters from Urals when they wanted to get unique and beautiful things for their palaces or as presents to other countries. The factory was established on November 17, 1947. At first main products were wristwatches, pocket watches, mechanical table clocks and unique technical clocks for tanks and submarines ordered and paid by Soviet Union Department of Defense. From the end of 50-s and up to the present time the main product of the factory is mechanical 18 jewels pocket watches "Molnija" ("Lightning").
