These lovely salt-cellars have been handpainted in bright, cheerful colors by craftsmen from Northern part of Russia. Salt in Russia always has been a symbol of hospitality. There has been a custom to meet the guests with bread and salt, which is still popular.
That is why the craftsmen decorated the salt-cellar with special deligence.
The first one features the lush flowers and funny birds, the second one is made in blue tones and resembles a frosty window, the last one represents the Mezen style of painting, one of the oldest painting of the Russian North, characterized by images of red horses, deers and birds.
