These attractive boxes were created in the Mezen painting style by a craftsman from Arkhangelsk. In spite of the very detailed painting it is very archaic style of the Russian North. Craftsmen used only two colors – red and black. Because in that times they were the most simple to get. For the red one the ancient artists used brick earth and for the black one – soot. Geometrical lines reflecte the symbols of the ground, sun and water. The deers, horses and birds are protagonists of this painting style. Slavs believed that the horses bring Sun every morning, deers fill a home with joy and birds – with hapiness. These boxes are very opportune to keep in them various small things that you want to be at hand.
