This Russian container decorated with mushrooms is made of birch bark. Birch bark always was traditional and favorite material for Russian craftsmen. A number of villages in Northern Russia produced large and small boxes and canisters of different shape and size decorated with a thin layer of birch bark coating and exquisite cut-through ornaments over it.
