In the Russian North since old times this kind of chip bird was a symbol of family happiness. There is a legend about one man whose son fell sick and day by day he was feeling worse and worse. The father was sitting at his son’s bed, making something from a pine clapboard and talking to him about upcoming summer, bright sun, silver birds and his hand unconsciously started to create an odd bird. Then he hung this bird over his son’s bed. The bird was spinning and the son thought it was a small sun and started getting better. The craftsman told about this story to his countrymen and everybody wanted to have such a bird at his home. And even now people believe that this bird hung at home will bring them luck, health and family welfare.
