Moscow and its coat of arms

Russian Souvenir Mug

Moscow and its coat of arms
Moscow is the capital of Russia, located on the river Moskva. The city is in the federal district called Central Russia (which is actually in the west of Russia). It was the capital of the former Soviet Union, and of Muscovite Russia, the pre-Imperial Russia. It is the site of the famous Kremlin, which serves as the center of the national government.
On this decorative ceramic teacup you may see The Intercession Cathedral (Pokrovsky Cathedral, better known as the Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed or St. Basil's Cathedral).

Get more information about Intercession Cathedral On the right side of this cup you may find the image of Moscow coat of arms.
As the patron saint of England, Portugal, and Greece, St. George is best known for being the patron saint of Russia. He is most famous for the miracle involving him fighting a dragon. There are several versions of the story, but the main point remains that a dragon was terrorizing people of a land. When St. George was passing through this land people asked him to help. He went to see if the dragon had already eaten the newest offering, which was the king's daughter this time, and instead of eating the dragon had to meet its doom at the lance of St. George.
