The history of Russia can be traced through its rich tradition of icons. Depictions of saints, martyrs and saviors were regarded as heralds of the divine and were revered as objects of religious worship. Nonetheless, the new atheist state celebrated its heroes in much the same way the church its saints. The Patriarch of Moscow and all of Russia runs an "icon factory" located in Sofrino at the outskirts of Moscow, employing 3000 workers who churn out replicas that sell like hot cakes throughout the country. Not with standing, the traditional art of icon painting still continues to flourish - when on a smaller scale. The centuries-old techniques of the old masters continue to be taught under the watchful eyes of the keepers of the faith.
Mother of God of Kazan; the Savior; St. Nicholas, The Miracle Creator; Trinity and saint healer Panteleimon are depicted on this Russian Icon Case with double stamping.
