Grydinina O.P. from the village of Kholui created this magnificent view of Kremlin which is the main architectural ensemble in Rostov the Great . It is the easily recognizable symbol of Rostov. Natural pigments have been used to paint this alluring scene. Natural pigments are rocks and minerals such as clay, coal, limestone, etc. The technology of painting using natural pigments was applied by Russian icon painters during centuries. It helped to achieve rich and beautiful coloring; and this scene can easily prove this fact. Gold and aluminum paints are use to highlight the sky, the snow and the foliage of trees. The edges of the lid and the box’s sides are decorated with beautiful gold ornamentation. The interior of the lid includes the golden emblem of Kholui, the artist’s name, the artist’s signature and the statement informing that the box has been made by means of unique technology using natural pigments. The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition and the box rests on four legs.
